North and East Again

There are no boats running up the river, into the harbor, or out into the ocean this time of year. There may be snow and I don’t even have a proper pair of gloves. Despite this I am looking forward to our short trip to Portsmouth, NH this weekend.

It will certainly be quiet but there will be great music, delicious food, wine, and beloved company.

The amount of gratitude I normally feel is brought into sharp relief by my few discontents.

This building is listed on the map as being "Under Restoration" when it has obviously been left to simply fall apart.

Piglet in the Pasture at Stone Barns

Piglet on the Pasture at Stone Barns with Mud on its Snout

We took a road trip north of the city to do schoolwork and mess about outside with a quick tour of Stone Barns Center for Agriculture. How much of it is the restoration of historic techniques and how much is more recent innovations? I suppose I will have to wait until winter to read up on this because the assignments have already begun for the Fall semester.

Elliott Erwitt's strange and sublime city photos (via Ephemeral New York)

Elliott Erwitt's strange and sublime city photos Paris-born photographer and filmmaker Elliott Erwitt has captured scenes all over the world. [A boy rides the Third Avenue El in this 1955 shot] They're also witty, bringing the viewer in on the joke with a focus on the weird and ridiculous—like the two grown men duking it out under an el pl … Read More

Escape 3

View of the bows underneath the bushes

If you hid here during a game of Ghosts in the Graveyard, Manhunt, Freeze Tag or Hide-And-Go-Seek you would be easily found. If you hid here to dig in the dirt by yourself, stay out of the sun or avoid everyone on an ordinary day you would not be found at all.

What kind of person hides behind the shrubs for fun?
