Queens Street – Long Island City

In the moments before a Long Island Railroad train pulls into the tunnel to Manhattan you can get a glimpse of this building. It stands out from the other nearby factory buildings with its peeling blue paint and odd geometric projections where a pilaster or a cornice would usually be. It is the former home of the Lewyt Manufacturing Corporation, maker of canister vacuum cleaners (and the occasional air defense system terminal.)
